overheating issue
hi all, i dropped my 2014 q5 off to mechanic for service 4 weeks ago. he rang to say my expansion tank is cracked?? strange as i have not had any overheat issues. anyway, i said to replace if needed. 2 weeks later, car overheated and had no coolant in exp tank. i organised tow back to mechanic. he said must be faulty thermostat, and he will replace?? now this is also starting to add up $$$. so after this, still no joy, and he said water pump. i started doubting this situation i am in. so new waterpump put in, compression test doen so no head damage, however expansion tank coolant bubbling hot. he has finaaly said he is confused. can i ask for some advice and what is issue?? cheers

Most often it is the cylinder head gasket.
Are there exhaust gas from the coolant?
Is the coolant level decreasing without any visible leaks?
You could make a compression test as well.
Also try to run without the thermostat.
