Q5 TFSI charging

Q5 TFSI charging
Just picked up my new Q5 TFSI e. All advertisements and literature says this car should charge from 0 to 100% in 7 hours on a regular 120 household outlet. It took 24 hours. Twenty-four ! The charger is set to 100% charge and I’ve tried two separate outlets with the same charging time. This is major false advertising and incredibly impractical. Highly disappointed !

For my Q5e, I have my Audi EVSE (electric vehicle supply equipment) plugged into a dedicated 120V 20A outlet in my garage. I also have a power meter on that circuit and when the Q5 needed a full charge, I found the EVSE only drawing 5.42A when it could be drawing 15A off that 20A circuit. That means I'm only getting about a third of the available amps through the EVSE. That matches your experience, with your charge times about 3X expected. I have another brand EVSE available and tried that today. The car accepted the full 15A charging from the same 120V outlet. So, there is something about the Audi EVSE that is limiting the current. I'll explore further and post back.

And, by the way, we probably ought to move this info out of the new member welcome area and into the technical area of the Q5 section. When I get further information about charging, I'll post there.

It’s the home charger. It doesn’t pull the full voltage from the 120 outlet. Apparently it takes 7-24 hours to fully charge the car which is not listed on any info from Audi or the car dealership. The e-Trina have the same issue. False /misleading advertising for sure.
