Hats off to the San Mateo County Sheriffs.

Kudos to the Sherriffs. I would be ecstatic!
I would revel in the demise of this miscreant. I have been a victim of these 'petty' crimes many times in my life. The actual damage has never been extensive, and stuff can always be replaced (just as in your case), but knowing some punk @#$ got away with it just irks me to no end.
If I was in your shoes, knowing this scumbag was caught would be so satisfying to me that getting the parts back would be a bonus in comparison.
Maybe my age is starting to catch up with me, but I have less than zero tolerance for this behavior.

Hopefully the kid with the Miata is getting the message that people who do bad stuff get caught.
From what the cop said, he was scared that the cops had had him nailed and broke down pretty quick. I figure kids like that can probably be scared straight by getting caught right away, not to mention having to pay for all of the damage they caused.
The kid who was actually wrenching on my car was a 16yo "dirtbag" with a long record - he needs to be benched for a while.
ps - that is one happy looking dag in your sig.
