Default Re: Wrong URL?

The URL for the June event is: http://www.unlimitedlaps.com/eventdetails/20030620.html

The level of instruction varies quite a bit to suit your needs. Instructors will ride with you for as long as you want. It sounds like you want some in depth instruction, so you probably want to contact them first about what they can provide and how experienced some of the instructors are. My co-worker will be instructing at this event, I can give you his email if you want to talk to him. I'll be there in June for my first track event.

Default I'm not really looking for a HPDE

...but a real school. My friend will need some classroom/instruction time before ever heading out on the track. Not providing a car is a big problem as well.

Default Some options...

Thunderhill has a class of sorts... It's more like an open-track day with your own "instructor" (more experienced driver). Comparable to an open track day in cost ($195), but the instruction won't be as intense as an actual racing school.

Russell Racing also has a 1-day class for $750 using your own car. I took the 3 day racing course from them, and it was awesome. Expensive, but awesome. Here's the link:

Default I took the Russell one-day thing at Sears about 2 yrs ago

Think I did a little review back then, but didn't find it from a quick search.

You do get some classroom time, where they explain/illustrate heel-toe, the line, weight shift, etc, some time on the actual track (would've liked more....), and a bit of time doing excercises like emergency lane change, skid car, and mini-auto-x course. Things may have changed a bit since then, dunno.

Caveat for your situation is that it's with your own car, but at $750ish, your friend may be able to spend the difference renting a car. Not that I'm suggesting he take a rental car on the track........as I'm sure there's probably some clause in most rental agreements against that.

I think Skip Barber has you drive their cars at Laguna, from a pickup to a neon to a viper...
