Default I need help from the Detail Guru's re: carwash swirls ..>>

I'm considering a used AMG C-class Benz and its got quite a bit of carwash swirls on the top surfaces of the car.

Before I pull the trigger I wanted to know if the swirls can polish out w/ a Porterfield job.

They're super fine and when you touch them you can't really feel them with your fingers...they're just there but not into the clearcoat.

What do you guys think ? Does a Benz have enough clear to hold luster after cutting the swirls ?

The paint is still shiney, just tons of swirls.

Thanks!

Default a good detail job with some wetsanding will make that perfect...

check the detailer's forum.. there are a few AW sponsors who do it.... it'll be a bit expensive though ~ $500...

Default 2nd ^ ^ ^ Cross post to the detailers forum and they will give you a reliable read

Phil, Kimchee and a few others over there have a ton of experience working on all the German cars. They will be able to give you a good read on the paint.

Default Wetsanding is really not a option you discuss this early on....

If its truly just carwash or normal wash swirling, I'd start with a few passes with aggressive polish and a PC.

If that didnt get it done, then you'd need to go the route of a rotary with polish and see whats what.

Default Without seeing/feeling it myself, I'd guess that with a medium cut pad,

and a very good polish, the majority of that will buff out.

Default Benz paint is of high quality and you would probably need 2 passes

just take it easy on the bumpers, plastic heats much quicker and you'll burn through the clear.

where are you located?
