OK.. so now I'm feeling old...
So my son in U of Hartford left his AIM on with an away message... "Playing Pong in the dorm all night."
This morning, I see another away message that tells me Pong is not the old video game.
What am I missing?

I just searched my emails for a pic I had
4X8 piece of plywood with cups in the normal formation but the tips of each triangle touched each other.. 100+ cups on either side.
similar to actually the first one to come up in a google image search thats a dead link.. but more cups...

Competitors hurl lightweight plastic ***** into cups arranged in a pyramid on the...
opposite side of a regulation sized ping pong table. (In the absence of a regulation sized table, two saw-horses and a 4x8 sheet of plywood will suffice.) When the opposing team's ball lands in one of the cups in your zone, you are forced to rapidly ingest the contents of said cup, typically low grade beer. This continues until one team has forced the other to consume the contents of their cups, thus declaring the first team the victors. At this point, further challenges are accepted from other competitors.

not a bad description but not entirely accurate
while one with proper motives can turn any game into a binge drinking game beer pong is also a fun social game to play.
unfortunatly UConn had the belief that beer pong was irresponsible binge drinking and banned it from campus. it really isn't bad as long as your kid's got some self control.

pictures for reference
