Default Reminder: Sunrise At The Cliffs 2008...

I would like to announce the 1st Sunrise At The Cliffs drive, featuring some of the most scenic, exciting, and challenging roads anywhere around. Hopefully this will become an annual "Spring Time" event.

The meet will be on Sunday April, 6th 2008 and will begin at 5:30 AM (yes, you read correctly). Since FDR Park doesn't open that early we will meet at 3333 Crompond Rd., Yorktown, NY 10598 (Staples), located in Northern Westchester County, in the town of Yorktown Heights. The parking lot is located just a short distance off of the Taconic State Parkway, and is easily accessible from NYC, CT, and points North. Directions can be obtained from www.googlemaps.com, the address for the parking lot is:

3333 Crompond Rd
Yorktown, NY 10598

For this drive, there will only be one leader with a middleman and an anchor helping out. I don't expect a huge turnout b/c of the starting time and want to keep things simple.

I request all to arrive no later then 6:00 AM for the drive because we will be heading out around 6:15 AM. Since there will only be one group for this drive it will be easy to just add people to the end of the line even if you get there at the last second. We will head to a twisty mountain road that climbs up the edge of the Hudson River that should look amazing at Sunrise. After this the drive switches gears into scenic/twisty road mode, where we will cruise to Seven Lakes Drive for some great views, eventually turning back and finding some more curvy roads. The drive is approximately 90 miles and should take approximately 2.5 hours to complete, but past years have proven that there is no way to know exactly how long the drive will actually take. So, I would leave your morning open for only this event. The drive end at the same lot we started.

Those that choose to attend please remember that though many of us drive capable modified cars, we cannot deny the laws of physics. Simply put, we look to have a ton of fun on the road, but not at the expense of the safety of anyone in the drive, or any bystanders.

TO ATTEND
I'm doing things a little different for this drive. There is no need to email me to register, simply show up and make sure you have a singed waiver for each driver and passenger. If I don't receive your waiver you cannot participate in the drive.

Driver Waiver
Passenger Waiver

Please email me at cliffs2 008@allencollects.com if you have any questions or for some reason can't download the waivers. You can also post on the NY/NJ/CT Forum Forum on AudiWorld which is also where updates will be posted.

I urge everyone to have a working and fully charged walkie talkie for the drive b/c I can't stress enough how important it is for the group to stay in contact with each other on regular intervals. Remember the person leading doesn't know what's going on with the cars in the back of the group. So, it's up to each participant to radio ahead if they can longer see the person behind them. If for some reason you can't reach your group leader then just radio to anybody in your group you can reach and have them pass on the message. We have lost some people this way in the past on the COI drives and I don't want it to happen again.

Since there will only be one group for this drive everyone will be on the same walkie talkie channels. Everyone should test the walkie talkies to make sure you can all hear each other before we head out.

GOOD ADVICE TO HELP YOU NOT LOSE THE GROUP
When on two or more lane roads I urge everyone to stay behind the car that was in front of them and for everyone in that group to stay in the right lane. Yes, even if there is a really slow car in front of the group. There aren't a lot of these two lane roads but it only takes one to lose somebody.

PHOTOGRAPHERS
I would really like to have a few people at the drive that are there to take pictures and/or video ONLY. We can figure out spots along the route to set up and hopefully get some really nice shots. This way one photographer (Ryan, you are the man) doesn't have to run all over the place to take all of the pics.

Default SATC Photographers...

If you would like to attend only as a photographer, please email/call me to discuss.

As a photographer you would most likely get two locations to set up, so you will need a car to get around the area. Without a car you would be stuck at the photo spot until we come back that way.

The only secret is the exact route we will be taking.

Default This drive is too small to go all out with planning. It's really a trial to see if this will be...

an annual event.

Default As inviting as this sounds I will have to bow out, I am over an hour away

which makes far too early of a wake up call

Default You could make a weekend out of it and stay up there...

I'm thinking of doing that, but it all depends on if my wife has class that weekend.

The Bear Mountain Inn looks really nice.

This way getting up at 5am won't be as bad ;-)

http://www.bearmountaininn.com/
