Default I was told that the code is on a sticker in the trunk, which I promptly removed

I have not tried the code to see if it works, but there was a sticker with a four digit code in the trunk by the spare.

I never got a radio manual with my car, which is where they have usually put the code for you in there.

Default I had to pay the dealer like $50 to get my code for me in my previous car...Gimme a break!

Do they use a VAG or something to get/reset the code?

Default Anyway to unlock it with a VAG?

I heard if they dont actually have the code on file they must connect with Germany to get the unlock code. True?

Why not, anything is up for grabs IMO. And why make it easy for them?
