Ford:
Take notice of the exact wording in the above article:
“Two key factors made the original Taurus SHO sedan a favorite of the automotive cognoscenti, right out of the gate. The critical element, a Yamaha-developed 3.0-liter V-6 engine delivering 220 horsepower, delivered thrust through a five-speed manual transmission. The SHO twist was design subtlety.”
The first key factor, in the articles own wording, was the V-6 delivering it power through a MANUAL transmission. Except for the $60,000 Cadillac CTS-V, Detroit doesn’t believe in sport sedans with manual transmission anymore. IMHO, if it doesn’t have three pedals, it really isn’t fun to drive.

Next part of above post:
In the mid-90’s, I liked the idea of the manual trannie Taurus, SHO, and in 2002, bought myself a lightly used Lincoln LS with a five-speed manual. Lots of fun to drive these past 7-years.
When it came time to replace it, I considered the SHO, but discarded it when I saw the bean counters had prevailed and no manual transmission. So I bought my first foreign car in 35 years of drving, a 2010 Audi A4, 6-speed manual transmission Quattro with a $35,500 sticker. ( I did somewhat better than that.)

The SHO starts at $37.120 with FWD, and would be about $40,515 with similar options (such as a moon roof, that were standard on my Audi). Ford compares its styling to Audi,to quote a Playboy mag review ( I don’t read Playboy, but found the review on-line-) to:
“resembles an Audi A4 on Human Growth Hormone.”
