I'd try to look at them side by side and get the remote and set them to their defaults settings.
I was going to buy a Sony or Sharp. The Sony meant a smaller TV. When I went to Video Only I talked to the salesman and he recommended the Toshiba. The Toshiba picture at that time was noticeably better than a Sharp D64U? series, the same screen size and just a little smaller package.
Only complaint I have is the Toshiba does take a bit to switch resolutions so I just setup my DirecTV box to output 1080i all the time.
I notice Consumer Reports says the Toshiba remote is hard to understand...I always use the DirecTV or DVD player remote. I only use the Toshiba remote control to switch the TV inputs for a DVD showing.
The Toshiba "Stablesound" does help keep the volume of commercials under control.
This is all based on TVs that are so old....a year or more, I don't think you can buy them now.
