Default HIDs for 98 A4?

Hi Guys,

Bought a 98 A4 yesturday and am already seeing the shortcomings of the non-HID lights in it compared to my stock HID '05. I pulled up eBay and was amazed by how cheap HID bulbs and balasts are now!! Anyhow, I would like some advice on getting this car converted.

#1 Does anyone have a picture of what the beam pattern will look like if I just stick HID bulbs into my current lights? I obviously do not want to blind everyone else and want to keep my light where it belongs.

#2 Can the stock lenses in my existing lights be modified to give a proper HID pattern?

#3 Where is the best place to buy factory HID lenses to fit my car?

Thanks for the advice!

Default Search the B5 forum, there was a write up from someone who installed

an aftermarket HID kit, I am sure he could answer any questions you may have.

Default Please don't stick HID bulbs in reflector housings. It produces sooo much glare.

When I had my B5 I was able to buy Euro projector housings for like $350 and a Phillips HID kit for another $450 and the install didn't take more than 2 hours or so. Made a world of difference. I also went to Audi and had them align the headlights to factory spec to make sure I kept them out of oncoming traffic since the aftermarket kits don't have the autoleveling goodies. The link below shows that pricing has gone up on the Euro housings, but still not bad.

Like Tattoo said, search B5 forum for many great writeups on how to convert.<ul><li><a href="http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/part_detail.cfm?PMaI=1&amp;PMoI=1&amp;PEI=2&amp;PP =a4_18t_exterior.cfm&amp;PPT=Exterior&amp;IL=A4Pro jectorLights">http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/part_detail.cfm?PMaI=1&amp;PMoI=1&amp;PEI

I actually found some for much cheaper, however now I am trying to find a decent H7 HID kit... I am amazed that I cannot find any Audi-specific sites that just sell all of this stuff together. For my 3000GT there is gtpro.com, 3sxperformance.com. dynamicracing.com, etc. You find anything you want! With this car, I am feeling like I have to do more digging...

Default

I'm thinking like 7 years. I don't think the car was a year old yet when I did it.

Default Part of the problem, I think, is that those kits have become more tightly regulated now.

I read they may have been outlawed altogether, but I don't know how much truth is in that. If it's any help, I bought my Phillips kit from supremepowerparts.com. Not sure if they still sell them or not.
