If you do get an A4, chip it, you'll never regret it. ~200hp
However, if you start with an S4, you'll be at 250hp stock and around 330hp (if I remember right).
Get the S4, you'd never regret it. Stock it's better all around, and if you want to "wait" do to warranty concerns you won't be grumpy about only having the 170hp of a stock A4.

maybe those S4 owners you talking about didn't know how to drive?
no offense, but it's hard to beleive that a type 44 will run circles around b5 s4s :-)
