every single one of those cars has a higher base price too ;)
It's kind of funny to read people's comments, "oh I'm not interested in the R8, I'd never buy that thing...etc"
Rest assured that Audi isn't worried, there's a list of people 2-3 years long that want one. It's an instant classic. We can't even take any more deposits from people at this point for R8's (bummer). Audi wanted to make it somewhat affordable even with lots of options.
No it's not the downright fastest thing in a straight line. But the overall package, the value, the driving experience, the fit and finish and the styling is where the R8 wins. And I guarantee it's easier to drive at the limit than any RWD 911.
