Default I'm somewhere between indifferent and unhappy

I'm not overly impressed with Philips. His track record isn't the greatest, and I wasn't too impressed with him as the Buffalo HC. But I do agree that a defensive minded coach is what we need. I would've rather had Ron Rivera. And with Philips as the HC, I don't think Rivera will come here as a DC.

That's about where I'd guessed you'd be. Not a bad hire....not a great hire.

Default Its a safer hire than Norv Turner though.

I think Norv would stunt Garrett's growth and he'd try to handle the offensive play calling. With Philips, Garrett will at least have the freedom to run his own offense.

Also, if Norv struggles, there'll be too much sentimental love for him and he'd be a hard person to fire.

Now, if we weren't grooming Garrett to be the next great coach (at least that's what Jerry thinks), then I'd be all over the Norv bandwagon. But with Garrett in the picture, it complicates things. And I think Philips is only a temporary solution... win now, or you'll be fired and replaced by Garrett. I don't envy his position.
