Default 1.8t MTM Stage 2 w/K04 vs. GIAC K04 kit.

So right now I'm running the MTM Stage 2 software, Milltek exhaust and K04. It's not really much faster than the Stage 1. I'm concerned I may not be getting the power I should out of the K04, since the MTM Stage 2 chip is designed for a K03. I'm not going to spend the money for MTM Stage 3, although that would be the ideal way to go if money were no object. I'm considering going with the GIAC K04 kit, but want to know how much of a difference it would actually make from what I'm at now. Opinions or thoughts?

Default The chip your running should be tuned for a stock 4 bar fpr

while the K04 chips are tuned for the 5 bar fpr which allows for more head room for fuel.

Default That makes a lot of sense.

So I guess the difference is me getting enough fuel in there. When the system senses it's running rich from the 5 bar FPR, it'll make the turbo dump more air in there? What if I were to just put in the 5 bar FPR? Do you think the software would adapt some?
Another of my concerns is consistancy. Sometimes it feels fast, other times just barely more than stage 1. Thoughts?
Thanks guys! It's great you have a resource like AW.

Default Great idea. I've never been to the 1/4 mile track.

I wonder how much it'd be. Also, the straight track here is at 6,000 ft. I suppose that would alter numbers a bit?
I actually found a guy that lives ten minutes from me with the same setup I'm considering, also on a 99.5. I hope to hook up with him sometime soon, too.

Default No, the software wont adapt ;p

And like you said, "it'll make the turbo dump more air in there?"

The stage 3 programming will also run more boost since the K04 is a larger turbo and you are dealing with more fuel.

The only benifit you are getting right now is that a K04 flows a little more air than a K03 at 1 bar, or whatever the MTM stage 2 program calls for. But the turbo can put out more if the FPR and the fuel map was there. Hence the stage 3 programming.

Default The ecu might adapt for idle/part throttle, but at wot it will just dump more fuel in

causing you to run too rich. The K04 chip lowers the injector pulse to give the same amount with the 5 bar fpr as you get with the k03/4 bar setup, this means by lowering the injector pulse you have more room till you reach max pulse and allowing you to make more power.

As YellowA4turbo said. The k04 chip will allow you to make more boost and hold that boost further into the rpms, giving you more midrange/top end power. The chip will also have more adv timing since the air temps are a little cooler with the K04. That adv timing will bump up the tq which is what you really feel while driving.

Default I have the MTM Stage 3 software and there was a big...more

a big difference between the true stage 2 and the Stage 3. I do not have the MTM manifold or high-flow cat, so the only major difference between your car and mine is the chip and the 5 Bar. If you are not noticing a difference, something may not be running right? When I added the MTM Stage 2 chip and my miltek, the difference over stage 1 was huge. It was almost liked stock to chipped. Then when I added the K04 and 5bar and new chip it was almost as noticable as going from Stage 1 to 2, etc. My only concern is that I want the High Flow parts beacuse I am worried about heat, longevity, etc.
