Default 1.8T MY2000 catch can woes....

I'm trying to get my catch can right. I've been searching the archives, but most of the diagrams aren't being hosted anymore and I'm not getting enough out of the text I'm seeing. First I had it in palce of the crankcase to inlet tube tube and plugged the inelt tube. Had the can vented to atmpshere. This didn't work since the can is connected to the intake manifold and was sucking in unmetered air in vacuum.

For now I just have the can vented back to the inlet tube. It works, but it sorta defeats the purpose of the can. I'd like to eliminate the connection to the inlet tube so there is 0 oil vapor getting into the inlet.

So here are my ideas for what to try next.....ok..looking at this diagram....I have a couple ideas. Explain to me why they won't work please. In both scenarios, the turbo inlet tube is plugged.
Plug the part of the T where the crankcase vent connects to the intake manifold. So in the diagram, the side of the T facing right. The side of the T facing up, which used to go the turbo inlet tube, goes into the catch can.

1. Plug the other side of the tubing from the intake manifold back to the crankcase T. So the intake mani still feeds the brake booster and all those valves (whatever the hell they do) still see vac and boost from the intake manifold. The crankcase doesn't see this vac or boost, but since it's not connected to that BPV looking valve (pressure control valve per Bentley) does it really need to see this vac or boost anymore? In this setup, the catch can is vented to atmosphere. I believe this is what Joe is doing or is telling to do.

2. Have the line that used to go to the right side of the T go to the catch can instead of plugging it as mentioned in the first option. So now the intake mani is connected to the catch can. Catch can is not vented to atmosphere.
input greatly appreciated.

Default ok i thought about your post.

a) disconnect the PCV valve from the intake.
b) plug intake hole for PCV valve
c) connect catch can to pcv valve where intake connected.
d) vent catchcan to atmosphere.
e) *maybe not needed* add small air filter to catchcan outlet.

i believe this is the correct setup. the only reason the PCV is connected to the intake is to re-burn the fumes/oil....i.e. emissions reasons.

the PCV valve is a one way valve, the ECU will not know the difference between this setup and stock.

Default what is the pcv in the diagram?

and when you say intake, do you mean intake manifold or turbo inlet tube?

Default i mean turbo inlet hose, the PCV valve is #20 in this pic

the PCV valve is what allows the blow by crankcase gases to vent into the intake stream.

Default so let me see if I follow you.....

remove the valve # 20 ( I don't say PCV because there is debate on which valve is truly the "PCV") and plug that hole. OK, no problem there. Here is where I lose you

"c) connect catch can to pcv valve where intake connected."

So put the catch can in line with the hard line from the crankcase to the turbo inlet tube. And resuse the PCV valve in this system? The way I read it is you reuse it before the can? I suppose you could reuse it after the can so that the can does collect the oil. And then put a breather filter on after the PCV on the can outlet?

Default there's confusion on what the PCV valve is?

page 38 in the bentley manual states it is the PCV valve

now that we got that settled...again here's what I would do:

instead of having the PCV valve vent into the turbo inlet hose, vent it into the catchcan. case closed...that is the proper way to do it.

Default by the way...you could cut the hard pipe that goes down to the turbo inlet...

relocate the PCV valve and catchcan up to where you cut the pipe.

Default well I removed the pipe completely and ran the catch can IN line to where the

pipe connects to that T. The T that connects the pipe to the crankcase vent. So that part is done.

As for having the PCV vent into the can, you think it's better before or after the can?
