Default 12v speed limiter

I have been trying to disable the speed limiter on my turbocharged '94 90. It says in the owners manual "If the light (check engine light) comes on, the Electronic speed limiter will also be out of operation" So according to the manual it appears that if I cause a check engine light to come on the 210km/h limiter should be removed. So, since I was already messing around with the intake manifold change over I disconnected the plug going to the intake manifold change over valve, and I made the actuator so only the short (high rpm) intake runners would be used. Test run, and hit the top speed limiter at an indicated 205 km/h. So it appears that that a check engine light does not necesscarily disable the limiter. So does anyone know what or if any events will cause the check engine light and a disabled speed limiter.
Also, disabling the variable intake and using only the short runners has caused no noticable loss in low end, but mid rpm seem slightly better. I tried it with only the longer runners, and top end feel off noticeably above 5000 rpm.

Yeah, I know. I was just wondering if it is possible to trick the ecu, or find a way around it.

Its a software issue within the ECU chip.

Uuhm, no software issue since no software. More of a hardcoded design issue

Default One thing about forcing the light to come on is it should be a constant error signal...

however that puts the car in limp mode. How much performance difference? I don't know, but will play with the VAG later to find out. Then, you'll need a DTC eraser when you are back in normal speeds. Bummer. BTW, I played with the speed sensor from the tranny. Connection under throttle body in the A4.

I believe it is a constant error signal. The light is on from the disconnected electrical connector for the intake manifold change over valve. The performance difference on only the short runners is a small difference, it just seems it is more responsive at mid rpms, but it is a very tiny difference (and could be no difference at all), and i notice no loss down low. However with only the long runners power falls of noticeably above 5500rpm. Now with the check engine light on, I don't think the car is in limp mode, because light on and off I notice no diffecence (including O2 voltage and egts). I assume only certain codes cause limp mode? If so, is the limiter only disabled when the errors put the car in limp mode? You have successfully removed the limiter from your 12v by disconnecting the speed sensor from the tranny right?

Default I haven't, I was just playing with it last year or so while the car was on jackstands...

I took it out, rev the engine to redline on 5th without any sign of fuel cutoff, so I assumed it worked. I remember not having any speedo reading, hence never drove it. Didn't have a VAG tool back then too, so I was not able to reset the DTC, just took out the battery cable to reset the light I think.
