A4 1.8 chip procedure for dummies
Need a little advice. I've been reading about chips for my 2001 A4 1.8 Quattro, and have a few questions. I'm looking primarily for some oomph in 1st and 2nd gears, low-end torque I guess. If I want to purchase through APR or GIAC, I need to purchase a spare ECU in order to send mine to them, correct? If so, where is my best bet for getting this inexpensively? I'd greatly appreciate any other info that would help, thanks,
Chet

Nope, you don't need a spare ECU...just take out the one in your car, and FedEx it to them...you'll just have to go a couple of days without your car...then you get it back in the mail, just pop it in, do the TBA and you're good to go. If you have a 2001, you may be able to get the GIAC X-Chip, which would give you the most power; otherwise, the two are about the same.

where are you?...
iirc some dealers can mod your ecu. apr generally gives more torque while giac gives more horse power. my apr chip has good low end torque. i can accelerate smoothly from <40 mph in 5th.
