Why not tap into the stock knock sensor lines?

Or better still use a VAG-Com for the dual sensors, and you can see what is happening in the logs.

Default I think there are only two....

one between 1 and 2 and the other between 3 and 4.

Since two cylinders don't fire at the same time, you can have one knock sensor for two cylinders and still know which one is knocking.

Default should be easy enough....

just run the tap into an op-amp, then into a simple bar graph display.

It's just a matter of finding out what voltage is equal to detonation.

and to fancy it up, use a latch for memory (or 555 timer) otherwise, one may not see the LED "blip"

Ahhhhh...is that how the VAG-COM can recognize four knock channels?

Default there was a discussion on VWvortex about why this isn't possible :(

the voltage is just the volume/loudness of the knock...........

the ECU "listens" through the knock sensor for a specific frequency, (iirc 5-8khz) and detirmines a knock from backround noise through a filtering system. i would have to tap into the ECU after this system, (if even possible) to get a signal line...PITA! ;P
