Air Induction.! Good Idea?
I changed my air filter yesterday along with my cabin filter. Cabin filter was a snap, but the engine filter was a bit difficult because of all the attachments on the box. Any recommendations on future changes?
I was considering to change to a K&N Induction or the like but when I saw all the hoses and gadgets attached to the top of the box I didnt know if it was possible or how difficult it would be to fit.

stock air box with mods vs hot air intake
What i did:
1. Washed the K&N filter with warm water. All the pink oily stuff came off. Made the filter gray looking.
2. Removed the pre-filter from the air box.
3. Made an inch sized hole in the airbox (all the way at the bottom facing the foglamp)
4. Took out the left lower grill and made holes between the slots, and pointed the "ram air" to the center of the air box, using a plastic handle.
First impressions: The ram air helps alot when driving 70+, pushing cold air on to the air box , cooling it. After washing the k&n filter, it has even less restriction. I would say this mod gave me 4-5 hp.
PS. The "swoohss" is loud , like on a 18 wheeler

Washing the filter removes the oil and makes it non-functional
The oil is essential for trapping small dust particles. You can either re-oil the filter using K&N kit and hope you don't get too much oil on there and kill your MAF or just buy a new filter. Driving around like this you're sucking all kinda of dirt into the engine.

you are right but:
If theres anything that can pass through the K&N such as "small dust particles" it dosent really have any effect since they are too small to have any effect or collect some where in the "piping" , They will be burned up.
As for the MAF failer, MAF Failer is not likely since its not a "sand storm" it would be more likely to fail if it experience "chemical fumes".
