Default Any comments on APR and/or MTM Stage III setups?

I realize these are somewhat apples to oranges systems, but that is what I am after. APR is more power - 280 vs. 240hp - and a more comprehensive overhaul, while the MTM is a K04 setup. The MTM system appears to be some $1000 or so cheaper...

Can I get opinions/experience with either system from some folks? Pluses and minuses of each?

I may have a "blown" turbo (it might be the infamous wastegate rod), and I am thinking about a Stage III upgrade while I'm at it.

Any and all advice/opions will be appreciated. Thanks!

Cheers,

Default Well which ever you choose.....

make it two of them. Or you could just buy both of them and you test one and I'll test the other. Can you tell I want more power :-) You should send Dan a message about the stage 3.

Default I'd look more at torque and powerband

Do you want more torque lower? While I've never driven the k04, those that have driven both mine and that one state that the k04 has a stouter lower end but quits at 5500 while the apr pulls all the way to 7k. The thing is, the apr is not a very torquey feel below 3500-4k. so you've got to figure out which it is that you are looking for.

Default Good idea Matt, I may send Dan some mail...

...anyway, it all depends on what the diagnosis is on Thursday when I take the car to Leith. If the turbo is "blowed up", it's off to see what I can do.

If it turns out to be a simple fix, I may have to make do with what I've got...

I'll keep you posted.

Default I have had on my A4 (also Cactus green ) a stock KO3, a MTM chipped KO3,

a MTM KO4 kit when it was called a 250 kit,one of the first 3+ APR kits with a modified GT25, and lastly an APR creation something like a GT25/35. I liked everyone of them. Skip right past the KO4 and go directly to the Stage 3, more money, but more torque, more HP, better quality, great service, and a company that will continue to look at thier product to make it better. If you want your 1.8T to go fast with out compromise, it's the only show in town.

Default Unfortunately for me...

...the roughly $2000 price difference from a K04 setup to the Stage III is a big deal. I hear what you are saying, I just don't know that I've got the resources.

Also, as mentioned in one of the posts, I like the idea of low-end torque more than top end. My main uses for the car will be street and the occasional Auto-X.

Still, it's something to think about. Thanks for the input!

Cheers,
