Anyone know what the little 1inch tube going into the airbox comes from?

Anyone know what the little 1inch tube going into the airbox comes from?
it is right under and to the left of the main intake tube. Just wondering where its from and it purpose?
any help would be greatly appreciated

Speaking of SMOG pump...
I looked at the Mitchell repair guides for the S4, and they show a smog pump (along with the relay and solenoid to control it) on the engine schematic.
However, when I took my engine apart, I never found this. It doesn't exist on my car.
Do US models (or California) come with a smog pump and Canadian models don't?
