Default APR Stage II or Stage III

I have a 98 1.8T A4 5spd with 49K miles. Now I was wondering if I should first get the APR stage II or just go all out and go strait to Stage III or Stage III+. Plus do I have to many miles on my car to be doing any sort of upgrades in the first place. Please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Default What have you done thus far?

Have you chipped? Any suspension work? I think after you chip you expose the limitations of the suspension and it calls for aftermarket fixes. Just something to consider!

Adding a chip is enough to make you go "wow!" Adding an exhaust after that...that's another story. Some feel a difference, some don't. However, bigger exhausts ARE necessary when you run a bigger turbo...so if you went stage 2, you're definitely moving on the right path. Beyond that, you have the K04 kit for ~$1600 with 235/240 hp and the new PES kit for $3600 with 270 hp. Stage 3 is $4000 with an advertised 280 hp.

Honestly, I think you should try and find someone in your area who has a bigger turbo setup and see what you think about it. You really don't want to plop down 4+ thousand dollars and then be dissapointed in any way. Also, it would probably be wise to take into account the location of the respective companies in comparison to you, just in case you need to troubleshoot problems.

Don't worry about the miles on your car. I did my turbo swap on my '97 with 45k miles on it and I haven't blown anything up yet!!

I don't think that helped much at all....sorry!

Default Re: What have you done thus far?

I just got the car couple months ago, haven't really done anything yet, just clear corners and side markers and HID bulbs and RS4 Grill. The only thing I live in PA about 50 miles from pittsburgh so I'm not really in any good shape close to any APR dist. Closet is in Ohio. Plus no one really has Audi's around where I am mostly VW's and honda's. I like to be different. But I'm really leaning towards APR because I hear alot of good reviews about them and seems mostly every one here at the forums have mostly APR. Thanks for the advice greatly appreciate it.

Just try a chip first. $500 vs. $4000

Sounds good, I think I'll do that then. Thanks for the advice. Then maybe I'll go with Stage III in the future.

Default Although....

You could just jump RIGHT to the stage 3 + exhaust.... AFAIK you'd be the only person to ever do it! That'd be pretty cool, IMO. I couldn't even begin to imagine how big your smile would be if you just took the plunge all at once. Heheheh.

Enjoy the car!
