Calling audi2ptzero....
Looks as though I'll be doing a 2.0l conversion. What can you warn me about it? I'll be having a trusted machine shop do the balancing & install, then I'll be doing the new oil pump, lower pan, head prep, & final assembly & install.
It'll be mated with the t3/t4e, with a new hi flow cat, and the afc to dial the fuel, with a wideband 02 sensor kit to monitor the curve. Will upgrade the injectors to 450cc when I get ready for it, too.
The kit is from eurospecsport.com, right? $2500?
Am I missing any important steps? I'd like this one to stay together ;-)
Bwahahaha!~

Is the 2.0 from Eurospecsport?
If so you might want to talk to SmokingA4turbo since he had his built by them. Mine is a custom 2.0 built by the guys at Dynamic racing solutions which builds race motors for a speedvision team.
Ryan that has the 2.0 liter and PES T28 kit also has the ESS motor which PES had built for him.
My motor cost me around $10K in parts and labor including a brand new AEB head that was ported to have max flow. This was done out of my stock ATW block and I paid to have the block checked to see what the max bore was that we could do on it.

Hmmm.......
The kit consists of rods, crank, pistons, and bearings for $2450 retail?
IMHO it's overpriced.
A 2.0 forged/triggered crank from them is $650 (I bet you could find one used for less)
The stock rods are plenty beefy, they can be conditioned/balanced and fitted with ARP rod bolts for about $325.
Rod and Main bearings are $75.00
JE Forged pistons, made to your specs, are $550
The Eurospec pistons are only 82mm, I'd go at least 82.5mm, maybe even 83mm. Plus they're made for 8.5:1 compression, which is quite a bit lower than the stock 9.5:1
For $1600 you'll have everything the kit has, and if you want to go all out, you could get the Carillo rods for $1338 in place of reusing the stock rods, and have about $2600 invested.
Also keep in mind that having the block machined, and rotating assembly balanced (flywheel, crank, rods, pistons, pulley) will set you back another $700 or so.
FWIW, my franken-motor cost me roughly $4300 to build, not including all the turbo stuff. It's all the little things that add up. Check my 2.0 conversion page for my "what I've spent" list.

Yes I have the 2.8 mounts.
They are a direct bolt in. The shop put them in while the motor was being built. If you want you can call up the guys at Dynamic racing solutions because they also put the 2.8 mounts into Garrett's (GIAC) car.

The forged 2.0 cranks are getting harder to find.
It took the guys at DRS a bit of time to find a good one. Watch out while trying to put in aftermarket rods into a stock 1.8 block with a 2.0 crank. The ends of the rods end up hitting the block wall since they are much thicker and you will end up having to shave the inside of the block.
JE sells 82.5mm 8.5:1 pistons for our motor so it is not take too long to get.

It took JE 3 weeks to make my pistons, that isn't too bad...
it took another 2 weeks though because they messed the first ones up.
I don't think they keep them in stock, they just make them as the order comes in, so it shouldn't take any longer to get them made to your specs.
I personally prefer a 9.0:1 compression ratio for a motor that sees a lot of street time. I think it's one of the reasons I see 15psi by 2800RPM.
Aren't your pistons 83.5mm?

intake side is real easy. just lean the engine weight on a jack and remove about 5 hex bolts on the
bracket and 2 nuts on the mount. you can do all this with the driver side jacked up and and thru the d-side headlight/S hose removed

Re: Forged 2.0 cranks...
Look for an ABA code 2L engine from a 94-95 Golf/Jetta/Cabrio. These engines have the 92.8mm forged crank with provision for the trigger wheel (crank pos'n sensor). The 96 and later ABAs had cast cranks.
