Logic... If the original valve (which is called a diverter..)
Diverts the excess air and the ECU needs the signals that this generates, then a Blow off valve.. (which diverts this air to the outside) will not allow you ECU to get the signals it requires.
Then you get a check engine light.
Then you get a check engine light.

Not a good idea with MAF before the turbo
It can be done easily if you have a Air Pressure type of sensor system in your car but that would mean going to standalone ECU.
A BPV = Bypass Valve recirculates measured air so that air will eventually go through the motor.
A BOV - Blow off valve releases measured air to the atmosphere so the car will run rich in some instances.
If you put a MAF right in front of the throttle body then you can do whatever you want.

Do you like to tune your car OR do you like plug and play?
If you run a BOV then your MAF prob is not going to like it. Some 1.8t don't mind but most throw a cel. You just have to try. If you car doesn't like it then you have to run no maf and tune you car with lemmiwinks. So do you like to tinker. If the answer is yes and you can live with a check engine light the you can run a bov. And you prob won't loose any performance.
