Default cone air filter - HEAT SHIELD OR NOT

do I need to install a head shield for a cone air filter or does it matter that much.

I have heard you do need one for it to help but I see so many pictures with people that dont have one on there tricked out cars????

so make one for it or forget it????

Default well then how do I make one?

just make a metal wall for it that blocks the air??

I have seen the one on audi 20.org is that what I should do

or is there an easier way

also what materials

Default Varies from car to car. Some "need" others are fine without.

Depends on how close the filter is to sucking in hot engine air.
