i'm looking into a medium upgrade and i want input on both these systems. i'd like to go with boxster calipers with A8 rotors. do you ever get the wet breaking problem that seems to plague our cars? also, how reliable is your setup? thanks for you input.

My Stage III is in the mail...I'll be dropping my opinion once I get them...and put them on the car
it's been a while waiting...they're supposed to show up tomorrow, we'll see...it's up to FedEx now.
Anyhow III is probably more than you wanna spend...but in the end if you're going to dump that kinda cash you might as well spend a little more and get the best setup (within reason) that you can afford. It's not only bigger in diameter than the A8 Rotor but thicker too if I remember correctly...and of course the caliper is larger...but you must run 17" wheels I think, they look too big for 16" rims.

BIRA stage 1
I run the BIRA stage 1 on my 97 A4 1.8t. The important part is selecting the correct brake pads to use in the Boxster monobloc calipers. The stock Porsche pads squeal like a pig when used with the Audi A8 rotors. The Kerr Friction street pads are silent and work very well. I have not experienced any wet braking problems using the BIRA setup. The Turbo 5 group ripped off the design of the BIRA stage 1 & 2 brackets and the prices they charge are alot more than it would cost you to put together the same system from BIRA. I suggest you join BIRA, the $20.00 membership fee is well spent.

I have the T5 SII set up and have no problems at all from it.

Well at least for the Stage III brakes this is not the case as they make thier own bracket
I assume if the mentality that anyone who makes a bracket to adapt a Porsche Boxter or Porsche 996 or Porsche Big Red Caliper is that you're somehow ripping off BIRA or Movit or something like that then you're just plain crazy. Now if they copy everything right down to the exact dimensions I'd agree...but there are some things that will simply by force be the same...like bolt spacings and such, does that constitute a copy? I certainly don't think so...

Re: Not Exactly True
Last summer BIRA was in negociation with one of the principles of Turbo 5 to resell the BIRA designs. They were given basic design ideas which were then copied and resold as Turbo 5's own. Also a BIRA member has been forwarding the BIRA private, members only e-mail to Turbo 5. Ask your pals at Turbo 5 if this is true.
