Default Exhaust technically minded:

Lately i have been thinking about doing a custom Exhaust job. From the header back i can get it done prob cheaper then it would be for my to buy a performance setup , prob about 400 for a stiaght pipe all the way back to the muffler. No cat! And highest diameter possible. Now would this be better than buying one from someone.. And if i do decide to go this way, what would be a good muffler to use w/ this setup? Any opinions thanks in advance..

Default Here's what I got going on!

On my 1993 90, I've replaced the entire exhaust system. The entire system is now 2.5" pipe, from the ported cast manifolds back! The 2 down pipes merge in to 1. I've installed 2 flex pipes, on each, and a 3 bolt flange so they can be removed separately if needed. I've also upgraded to a "single" cat of "high flow" caliber! Then a 24" stainless resonator where the 2 center mufflers once were. The rear muffler was replaced with a straight pipe and DTM tips. Later I added another resonator, to the rear straight pipe, to quiet things down a bit.

What's good about this system is first it really allows the engine to breath much better, especially if modified as mine is. Second the single cat setup allows for a "test pipe" to be installed easier than for the twin cat setup. ;o)

Overall, a much better system, performance wise, for my 90 V6 than the factory setup. Sounds more
agressive than the factory and is not really loud at all.

I'm surprised no aftermarket manufacturer has done one yet, as they are quite simple to do for the 90 series.

I'm still looking for a suitable rear muffler so I can run just the single rear muffler system.

Default don't remove your cat, it doesn't do any good anyway

The HP difference is perhaps as high as 3 or 4HP. Not worth the trouble or destroying the environment for.

Default Cats reduce NOx and HC emmisions

NOx and HC's are bad for the enviroment, therefore removing your cat makes the air we breathe worse, and helps destroy the enviroment.

So, Miktip, what's your question?

I just spent a week in Caracas, and I have a newfound respect for the Catalytic converter. The air was horrible, and that's compared to Houston air.

Default You won't see a big gain by removing the cat on a NA engine.

Maybe even a loss of low-end torque.
