Default Exhaust with Y-Pipe Setup: Harmonics

I have a 3" catback, set up with a 3" midpipe and straight-thru Magnaflow muffler to a Y-pipe. I understand that length of tubing, the type of metal, as well as muffler/resonator placement affect exhaust tone and harmonics. I was thinking about experimentating for the perfect exhaust tone-- i.e. any input on putting a resonator on one of the pipes from the Y, and no resonator on the other? Would a synchronous dual-tone exhaust sound any good, or is that plain cheesy?
