Default Re: ECU regulation of boost

Actually I don't know if you saw the threads that we've had recently on VWVortex. Basically you have requested boost (ECU) and delivered boost (actual). This can be measured with the VAG-COM tool, and you'd be surprised as to how long it takes to build up to requested boost, which is what the chip manufacturer's advertise their chips at. Supposedly additional modifications bring you closer to achieving that requested boost level.

Default The problem is...

The cap enters the at the center of the tank, so the air will mostly go thru the tubes closest to the entry, and won't utilize the outer tubes until the inner tubes get saturated, which means that you have to have air enter the center, and then flare out 5" or more from the inlet to go thru a tube, then flare back 5" to the center AND turn 90 degrees to get out.

The better solution is have the entries at the end of the tank and put a splitter down the middle:

(I hope this looks OK, maybe use a fixed width font?)

Now air will enter and leave more smoothly and the flow splitter makes sure the air takes 2 paths of least resistance instead of one to get the best out of the cooler.

Default the pic is screwed up but

I get it I think. Enter at the one end of one tank, exit at the opposite end of the other tank. So all paths through the intercooler are equal length. Splitter in the middle just to be sure.

Subie could do this on their intercooler, enter from the bottom of one end of one tank, exit from the bottom of the other end of the other tank. That would fix everything but the 90 degree turn, which would just be something they'd have to live with.

There are plenty of wrong ways to do it, aren't there?
