Default Help with Engine RPM's

I have a stock early 98' 1.8 quattro, 5 speed. When I accelerate and shift near 6000, the engine speed hangs at ~5000 longer than it feels like it should. It seems like the revs should drop more quickly, so I can get on the next gear. Anyone with any info would be greatly appreciated.

Next question, I know this one has been beat to death...Any advice on a chips, APR vs. MTM, vs TAP. Seems like no solid consenus. Thanks

Default Have a mechanic or yourself check out with a VAG...

Hiya,

You may have some problems with the throttle position sensor. If you are used to a lighter flywheel (like I am) from other automobiles (usually of Japanese origin) you may just be experiencing that.

Advice on chips? APR or GIAC are the consensus and most on either side of the debate will still recommend the other as a difference in taste. Both are equally reliable from what I have seen in the forums for the past 2 years.

Stay away from TAP, that has a known reputation on this forum for destroying a few motors (search the archives). MTM is a nice choice, from their reputation, but few here have the chip to give a good consensus of its merits.

Good luck!

Michael
