Help on Tranny Oil
My manual transmission is making a whining noise. I know it might not fix it, but I want to try Red Line oil to see if it will help. Which oil should I use:
MTL (GL 4) 70W80
MT 90 (GL 4) 75W90
75W90NS (GL 5+) 75W90 "extreme pressure protection
75W140NS (GL 5+) 75W140 "designed to reduce noise"
Also, what to use in the rear diff?
Lastly, it this change hard to do? I did not find any tech articles on it.
Thanks

Right, the Bentley manual calls for 2.9 quarts of 75w90....
and I bought Redline MTL, which is actually 70w80 (I thought it was 75w90)
If you live in colder climates, the 70w80 will provide slightly better shifting when cold.

MTL has both, 70w80 and 75w90. I happen to have both in my garage as I ignorantly loaded up my cart
before. Haven't used the 75w90 yet, but the 70w80 has worked wonders on any tranny I put it - My Mazda and Mitsu Montero and Eclipse. Not for A4 yet, but will do soon.

Actually, they are both called MTL per the label. You have to look in the back and if it says 75w90
you know you got MT-90. Other than that, they look exactly the same, including the viscosity which is almost like my 10w40 motor oil. That's why I picked up 5 bottles by mistake oops
