Honestly thinking about designing a custom turbo kit for my B5 1.8T....
I want to know what you guys think. Has anyone tried it? I'm confident that I can design an install all the hardware myself. The ECU is the only tricky part, any suggestion for what to do with the ECU?
By design, I mean pick the right parts, and when needed, design and have my own parts fabricated.
Also, what kind of costs would I be looking at to bore it out and make a 2.0T?
Just trying to get some ideas started, so throw out whatever is on your mind (Even if its.. "stop now, you idiot")
Thanks,
Aaron Bryan

Custom turbo? I have a '01 ECU w/ PES T28 chip for sale... =)
Actually, I'd like to trade. Preferably for a stock ECU, but I'll take chipped ones too. Trade plus $$.
to make things easier, i just went thru ATP for most of the hardware. I havent been able to install it yet (block is still at machinist), but I have to admit, so far so good. No regrets.
If I were to do another setup, I'd probably look into a GT28R turbo setup w/ 440cc injectors, T28 chip, boost controller, and air/fuel controller.
This would be a bit more streetable than a GT30R, and can be fine tuned by any good shop w/ experienced tuners and a dyno... instead of having to get GIAC or PES to do it for you (who knows how long it'll take to even see them)
I honestly believe that this setup would be better than a straight PES T28 kit.
Anyways, it's up to you~
Good luck~

I go to school about 45 minutes away from AWE...
They'll probably be able to tune it for me
so you think a GIAC T28 chip will work (all depends on which turbo I choose I guess)

Re: Also, what are you getting machined on the block
for me, I blew my rings... and apparently, I did a damn good job. I had my block bored, but just enough to get the cylinder walls perfect. I'd say that it still is a true 1.8Liter.
I considered stroking the motor, but decisions had to be made quick so I just kept it at 1.8 (for now...) Also got JE pistons at 8.5:1 compression, and Pauter rods, new bearings...etc. All of my rotating assembly is at the machinist to be balanced as soon as the rods come in.

Yea, if they are tha tclose, ask them to see if they are willing to help you out...
GIAC is here in So. Cali, but i still cant get them to hear me out. they just dont like to respond. I gave up on chips. Good luck on your end.
