Default There's a recode option in VAG-COM...

and there is a section in the Bentley manual that has the coding options.

For example, a ATW motor will have:
07701 for quattro manual

An AWM motor will have:
16201 for quattro manual
16701 for quattro manual w/ ESP

For AEB:
06301 for quattro manual
06201 for quattro manual w/ traction control

The first two digits are country/emissions
The third is drivetrain/options
the fourth is transmission (0 = manual)
The last digit indicates the vehicle type (1 = A4)

Default That's the weird part about recoding. I wonder what really happens...

I wonder if by any chance, I already have fuel and timing maps of an S4 in my 12V? oh wait, they didn't exist back then

Good to see that you'll be back on the road in full trim again.
