Default Just received my AWE Stainless Steel Brake Lines...

They look better than I had expected for only $99 for a complete set of 6. They're the crimp on end types...the only variety which can carry DOT approval.

They have Teflon lining...stainless braid with a clear rubber coating...then the crimp ends with strain reliefs to withstand the whip test I suppose. Ohh and a little piece of tubing that reads DOT/FTS on them.

Anyhow for $100 bux they're worth a try...I figured since I'll be having my Stage III brakes thrown on in a week or so I might as well get some stainless brake lines while I have the brakes off the car and such...they should compliment the Porsche 996 Calipers and OEM S4 rotors nicely. I'm hoping that they'll make up a little for any feeling of increased pedal travel by not bulging when you really get on the pedal.

James R.

Default I bought those same lines from someone else and...

...they aren't exactly a great fit on the rear. As you'll see, the long ones in the rear are too short and the short ones are too long. I called the manufacturer in CA about it and they could have cared less.

Anyway, they work.

Default Really?...

You're sure they're the same lines as the ones that AWE is selling? Man that sucks if so...do they fit properly or do you think they're a safety issue? Are you using them on your car right now?

Is it possible I have a different revision aka they may have fixed the problem? I really don't want to have to do this twice, I just figured they were a good deal...I would have never though that they don't fit properly.

Any info you could give me would be usefull esp if I decide to return them to AWE for a refund...which will **** me off since I paid for 2 day shipping and all.

Default Don't worry...

We've installed plenty of these, and they fit fine.

If for some odd reason they don't, you'll get a full refund plus 10%!

Default :-) I wouldn't ask for a refund...I'd just want a set that fits that's all...

I'll go ahead and give a try...I'm having Advanced Motorspors Solutions put the brakes on...I'd do it myself but I don't have a power bleeder to do the bleed with...ohh well. Actually I saw a cool bleeder that used your tire (I'd use the spare) to provide the bleed pressure...came with a pressure regulator (5~15 PSI I think) resivoir and hoses for like $129 I was tempted...but alas I think I'll still have AMS put em on as I've only replaced pads and rotors on the A4, I've never bled one..I suppose you've got to fire the ABS pump with the VAG? What are the codes...how do you go about it?

Thanks,

James R.

Default I found a cool brake bleeder from this company...

I bought this one from a local parts place but you can order it directly from them. I've used it on my GTI and I can't imagine how I could ever bleed my brakes without it. It's so fast and easy! The application guide says it should work with all Audis. Too bad they haven't made an adapter for American & Japanese cars yet...

Power Bleeder

Default Wow that thing is pretty sweet...esp for the price...how do you like it?

That thing is cheap enough that I might be tempted to bleed my brakes on my own. If it weren't for the fact that this kind of work should really be done on a lift I'd be really tempted to do it myself.

Default I love it. No power needed. Just give it a few pumps and...

...open the bleed valve until the fluid runs clear. I haven't bled my A4 lines... yet (Hellooo... brake upgrade!), but it took me more time to remove my wheels to get to the brake bleeder valves that it took for me to actually bleed the brakes!

The only problem I have is that only one kind of adapter is available. My dad was disappointed that he couldn't borrow it to bleed his Toyota.

Default I bought a bleeder tool from Advanced Auto Parts for $7.99...

it is a hose that leads to a bottle with a one way check valve and a hose inside of it. The little plastic bottle has a magnet attached to it. Simply place the bottle somewhere in the wheel well above the level of the caliper and release the bleed screw a half a turn. Pump the brakes 8-10 times and voila - no more air. I have been using this setup for about a year and it works great. People at the track can't believe it costs $7.99.

I have converted quite a few people.
