Default K04/16g hybrid turbo

I have done a search, and looked at the web site. I am very interested in any info you could supply on this. How does it spool? what rpm do you get full boost, was there a noticable difference over the regular K04. I'm looking at this to put on a transverse 1.8t. I'm young and just can't afford the APR III, and I want something that can bolt to a stock manifold, yet has more airflow than a K04 can offer. I'm looking for about 250 whp. I have alot of freinds that are into the DSMs and know this turbo is capable of over 300whp, yet still spools fast, so it looks like a perfect alternative. Any info would be very greatly appreciated.

Default First of all...

...the transverse K04 may actually be capable of achieving your goal. The turbine housing on that turbo is more conducive to high hp flow than a longitudinally mounted K04.

My K04/16G hybrid was the first and it is a Frankenstien. I have a turbine wheel from a diesel KKK turbo which Turbo Specialties has been unable to obtain after it was accidentally shipped to them in lieu of the correct K04 turbine wheel. The compressor housing is the standard K04 and has been modified to accept a 16G wheel.

Spool up is decent. I don't really get anything below 2750rpm. I am at full boost between 2900 and 3000rpm. I can maintain any boost level to redline. My limitation has been injector related. I am definetely getting well over 250hp with my setup and can outpace chipped S4s at the track all day.

Default Re: First of all...

well thankyou very much for the fast response. I will be looking further into this. I've seen a few people running the ATP manifold with a Super 60 turbo, but they don't get full spool till around 4000 rpm, so this setup seems like the perfect balance between power and spool. I want 250hp at the wheels, and I doubt that is possible without really pushing a stock K04. There's alot of other people that showed intrest in this also, so it may be a good project.

Default Since you have a transverse 1.8T, get the OEM 225HP TT turbo upgrade with chip, and a few more...

tweaks will get close to your desired output.

Whats this 225TT turbo upgrade? Will the 225TT's turbo just bolt inplace of the stock turbo?

Default pricing?

how much does a hybrid system similar to yours cost to prosuce and instal? Also about how much hp would be expected from your setup? Can it handle 300 hp?

-Thanks

Default Figure about $900 plus a K04 core...

...but don't forget that when I did this, there was no APR Stage 3, ATP manifold, GIAC GT25 programming, etc. I had no choice at all.

If I were to do it again (which I am this winter) I would go with the ATP and a T3 or T3/T04E (my choice).

Default That's alot less than a stage 3...

I'm only considering this option because I'm limited on funding and i want to get the biggest bang for my buck... If I only have around $2k what's my best route to take?

Default Plus...

...$1000 for a new intercooler, 400 for an Extrude Honed manifold, $200 on Samco hoses, $400 for new programming....etc, etc, etc.

Is it really a better deal?
