Default Looking seriously at a turbo for my 12V

I have pretty much everything figured out and priced except for the turbo itself. I'm looking for suggestions, I hope to make about 250-275hp running stock internals. I'm looking to minimize lag as I like to drive on twisty stuff, I thought those were good numbers to maintain normal drivability.

The project won't actually happen until spring or summer, but I'd appreciate the help on finding a suitable turbo for what I'm looking for. I'm just trying to do as much research as I can before I lay my cash on the table.

Default Been there done that

there's only one in existence that's been done. I was just looking for information on turbos, what would be a good choice/trim for the kind of power output i'm looking for.

even in a single turbo setup? I was thinking t3/t4 especially with their pricing <$700

Default where you going to mount that puppy?

you dont have a straight 6 so getting all 6 cylinders to a single turbo is going to be very tough/near impossible...if at all

Default robk had it monted off to one side, though he did it in a 90.

He hit 400hp at 18psi, I'm looking for 8-10 so I can keep stock internals though.

Rob K's Picture poster

Default impressive... but how much of it are you going to do??

and is it really worth all that trouble for 80hp?

get a newer car 1.8t or s4

Default Think about it cost wise:

My car is worth: $6k
1998.5 1.8T - $12-14k depending on trim, low miles
PES T28 Kit - $4300
2001 S4 - $20k

So after selling my car I need $14 for the s4 or $12 for the a4, not including all the suspension, wheels, etc I would need since I did not keep my originals to switch out if I ever sold the car for a newer one.

Parts for the 12v come to about $4500ish.
An install is probably in the $2k range. $6500 vs. $12k? I think you know where I'm going with this.

That, and it is a project. It's more unique than anything else, since I will be one of the only 2 turbo 12v's, and the only turbo 12v a4 in existence to my knowledge.

Default fab cost seems low + clutch ($1200+ installed) + tuning (dont know where you are getting that from)

I fully embrace the project side of things =) but within reasonable and attainable levels.

a couple more sanity ?s:

-is this your daily driver? If it is how are you going to afford the downtime to fabricate and install this?

-I'm sure you could find used suspension for cheap to swap into the car... hell, you could buy a 1.8T or S4 then just swap the towers.

-Why not develop a supercharger. Less plumbing and easier to tune.

Another option is tap into the Stasis brains! They have a 12V running 250+hp and it is still normally aspirated.

Again I appreciate a project... but if you are going to do it..DO IT! Lower the compression and throw on a Honking Turbo and go for the 450+ mark.
