Default More engine mounts questions.....XR4TIC, is your email address updated (returned to me)

Gentlemen-
Thanks for all your post regarding replacing the engine mounts in the A4. I have a 99.5 1.8t and will be replacing the two side mounts this weekend, as I suspect they're trashed after 115K miles of hard driving. I already have the APR mount up front. Anyway, I think both of you replaced the mounts with the 2.8L mounts instead of the original ones. I'm planning on doing the same, but want to be sure you guys haven't experienced anything negative from doing this.

Also, I can't find anyone but the dealer that sells these mounts. ECS told me the 1.8t mounts are different for each side, and the 2.8L mounts are the same on each side (part # 8D0199379K). If this is true, it seems like they wouldn't work. Should I be concerned?

I've really enjoyed reading your posts on AW, especially in the performance and tuning forum. I think half of the joy I get from this car has to do with the community and support. Thanks again.

Pat

Default Yup 2.8 are the same part number..

I put 2 in, nothing to worry about. 1.8Tq

It's not a radical upgrade if that's what your thinking? 2.8 mount in a 1.8T. Do it...

Or just get the 1.8T mounts.

Default The 2.8 is the same mount as the S4, the 1.8T is slightly different

For the 1.8T, one mount is slightly shorter than the other, but it's like 1/8" of difference.

I'm running 2.8 mounts in mine with no problems.

1.8T:
8D0 199 379 J - L
8D0 199 382 L - R

2.7/2.8:
8D0 199 379 K - L & R

Default Any improvement with those mounts? I have a set of S4 engine mounts....

and my stock 1.8T mounts have 115K miles on them.

Did you notice an improvement?

Default Not really....

I didn't have that many miles on my stock mounts, maybe ~35K or so.

I did it because I was hoping they'd be stiffer, they really aren't, but hopefully they'll take more abuse. Only time will tell.

I still get a lot of drivetrain movement, even with a Greedspeed mount and AWE DTS.

Default Thanks for the feedback. I ended up just going with the stock mounts.

Got 'em from Blaufergnugen (audiquattroparts.com) for $75. The match any price. I spoke with Jim who was a pleasure to deal with. Very nice guy. They go in this weekend. I wanted the 2.8 mounts, but the only place I could get 'em from in the next couple weeks was the dealer, and that would've been two to three times the cost. Going on a long road trip for Christmas, so I wanted to get 'em done by then. Thanks again, guys.

Default Thanks John.....I wasn't sure if they were any stiffer.

I have some drivetrain slop, but I just have an APR snub mount. I'll try the S4 mounts.

Right now my car is too low to even consider a DTS, but it may not do enough to matter. I just track (road race) my car, no drag racing, so typically it's not a big problem.
