Default Mounting an electric fan in place of the belt driven fan (more)

Any thoughts on how it should be done? The fan I bought (12" - Mr Gasket) comes with the plastic strips that go through the radiator. In order to do that, I'd probably have to separate the condensor to get them in. Or should I try to mount the fan to the shroud with some brackets?

TIA

buy some L brackets and mount them in the shroud. Not too difficult.

Not sure how electric fans are configured on the Audi A8 (possibly A6 also); but you might want to duplicate that configuration for sake of reliability.

Default The A4 already has a secondary fan that is triggered by a temp sensor...

I was just going to wire the new fan up to that, so they both turn on when the temp switch tells them to.

I disagree. The secondary fan is for the A/C.

Secondary fan is for engine cooling also. The secondary fan has two speeds that will kick in if belt driven fan in not enough. That temp switch is a bit high in degrees to rely on for cooling though. You can get a low temp fan switch from Neuspeed. It is that same one the Audi's and VW's have been using for years and just kicks in at lower temps. A better but more expensive solution is to use the PSM unit I choose. With it have it keep on/turn on the fans until underhood temps get below a certain level. The passenger side fan blows right across the turbo/exhaust manifold and this has worked out great instead of a turbo timer.

And the cooling system. It comes on at 89 and 99C water temp.

No amount of air cooling is going to keep oil from "coking" on red-hot turbo bearings if you shut the car off while the turbo is still hot.

I can add that later, for now 192/210 F is good enough, besides I already have a turbo timer

Default Wiring in parallel draws more current,...

...if A6/A8 is like this, fine. You should be OK.

If each fan has separate relays (on A6/A8), you should consider doing it this way, even if it's a little extra work.
