No spirited driving. Low to mid 50's this morning w/ fog.
Did this saturday too, after Auto-X.
Is there a thermostat just like the radiator that controls oil flow into the oil cooler?
I suspect mine may be sticking??
TIA!

No, I'll be out of town. Taking off for a few days with the GF.
I won't be back 'till Sunday. I should try to meet up with you at an Auto-X and ride along, eh? Do you live in the City?

I'm not sure there's a thermostat.
The oil cooler is a sandwhich plate between the block and the oil filter. It circulates oil and coolant to transfer heat. I don't know if there's a thermostat involved.
I would see 250 with the big turbo on track but around town it would barely break 225. I'd be a little concerned if I were you.
Good luck,
Rich

Hey Rich L.!!! you are right, I am concerned......
after auto-x never got up that high either. But, after leaving, and car had way cooled down, getting onto the freeway I saw it go up to 250, back off a couple of notches, go up than down again. The it did it all over again this morning after a coffee stop.
I have a call into the Turbo folks already.
see ya!

My 97 A4 1.8t w/Stg 3 oil temps run 185-200...
With my previous GIAC 30a chip, oil temps would stay around 160 for city/freeway driving, hitting 200 at Laguna Seca and Sears Point.
On the Stage 3, the oil return line passes inches from the inconel manifold which is alot larger than the stock cast iron unit. I am going to wrap the oil return line in some type of reflective insulating material to see if that will help lower the oil temperature.

My S4 oil temp gauge is totaly wacky. Sender and cluster replaced w/o much benefit.
I've just about given up.
It actually seems to work on the track most of the time....when it gets up to 275 or so. But on the road, it will show 300...or 0 or a random number in between.
I watch it occasionally, but keep reminding myself that most cars don't have one...it's not
a mission critical item.

Cool! I got in my car last night after work and it actually was reading a temp....
and it had been sitting for hours?
I will keep an eye on it though.
Thanks fellow Audi'ers!
