Rebuilding a turbo?
I was just wondering if there could be any performance gain out of rebuilding the stock K04? What can actually be changed? What kind of things can they change with the K04? Any idea what kind of cost is involved?
Thanks

new one? New k04?
The one I got now is fine, Im just looking for some more powA.. =) I can't swap the turbo out yet for a bigger one because I won't have any software to utilize it.. Since a few people are having success with hybrids I was thinking about doing something with mine.. I read about Mike Os experience with the hybrid, and Im thinking about contacting that Alabama shop once Ive got the cash in hand..

Re: new one? New k04?
The only way you'd be able to make your own hybrid is if you were able to balance something small (the compressor+turine) very accurately. You'd also have to find different wheels housings and such that fit in/on your center cartridge. Also, can you get a rebuild kit for the K0 series turbos yet? I don't remember seeing one on the market (doesn't mean they don't exist).
The K03/04 isn't like a K24 or K26 that you can go out to your nearest P-car shop and pick up a K27 cold side w/compressor wheel, balance the thing, rebuild it, and bolt it in.
If I were you, I'd probably spend some quality time with Google/Yahoo/Dogpile/etc and gather information on your K04.

My friend is working with another company - they were in SEMA with some hybrids on display also..
He'll see about getting K04's with "GT25" inside them (as they had on the prototype displayed in SEMA). These are for his S4. If it works, I'll try the same route with the TT, so I don't have to change a lot of stuff. He should be getting something in July or August. We'll see.

GT25 inside a K04? daymm..
Mike O said his turbo has a turbine (hot side) wheel from a KKK diesel turbo that is 2.5mm larger than the K04 turbine wheel and the compressor wheel is from a Mitsubishi 16G...
I know my K04 is larger then the K03 found in the A4, which is why Im wondering if I would see the performance gain would be worth the money.. If a company is going to be working on K04s specifically.. that would be awesome.. Having the internals of a GT25 in a K04 would do what, exactly?

The GT25 wheel will flow more air
but it will do it at a higher temp since it is trying to compress that air in a smaller housing.
There are larger K04's like the K04-23 and the RS4 K04's. You can try talking to juan of Werks of Art since he has a box of the K04-23's.
