Default Removing the ECU chastity belt? I was told you have to break the bolts off and drill but I find

this very hard to believe.

Any info? Thanks!

Default do you mean the metal "strap" that holds the ECU in???

If so, just gently pry one end of it with a flat-head screwdriver and the "strap" pops right up.

At least that's how it is on the 1.8T in my A4... I'm not sure if it is different in a Jetta.

Default No, no. There is a metal bar on newer 1.8T ECU's that has bolts with odd heads on it

to deter chippers.

I know of the strap that you are referring to. That is the old way.

Thanks for responding.

Default what kind of car? on our '01 TT, the ECU is just squished in place. Same as Jetta's, Golf, bugs

all you do is take out one wiper to get more room as you lift up the lower windsheild seal.

Default I can't tell clearly from the pic but that looks like the housing the ECU box is squished in...

just pull the ECU box out of there without taking that black thingamajing out. Unless there is a difference in '02 which I haven't heard of. I'll check later when I get home.

Guess they are getting a little more serious about chipping.
