So what will it take to get an RS2 trans into my car, other than me getting pissed and a crow bar?

BTDT Alot of time, energy, ingenuity, a shop that can fabricate a few parts per your specifications.
To be honest, I'd look at going the NeuS4 6 speed if I was to do it again. The gearing in the RS2 is nice but it is far more expensive and far more complicated a swap than using a Neus4 6 speed. The differences in the shifter set up between the two transmissions (RS2 vs NeuS4) makes the swap more complex and expensive on the RS2.

The 01E in the S2 and RS2 used the same gearing, shifter, etc...So don't limit your search for just
an RS2. However, the early S2's still used an 01A 5spd ('91-92 cars) paired with the less powerful 3B motor.

Putting an RS2 trans in an A4, I thought the only differences were the mounts.....
and there was something about a specific '90s "S" model trans mount bracket to use, I forget which one.
Bell housing, slave cylinder, linkage, axles should be the same. Stabilizer bar may need changing, and an RS2 friction disc may need to be used.

Like I said below, I AM running a RS2 box in my A4. You can run the 1.8t flywheel and clutch.
If you run the RS2 shifter you can NOT use the A4/S4 slave cylinder as the shift linkage hits on it. You will need to buy an aluminum slave for an 80/90s (US dealers can't buy European only parts from Audi) and the quick disconnect fitting on the A4's master to slave hose won't fit the aluminum slave. That slave requires a metric flare fitting of a size I found impossible to find stand alone. I bought a 80/90 hose and cut it up for the flare fitting. I then cut the end off the A4 hose/pipe, machined a steel right angle fitting and silver soldered the new assembly together. The only other option appeared to be to swap out the RS2 shifter for a NeuS4 set up. That would entail swapping, at the least, the backup light switch housing, pulling the RS2 shift plate and likely cobbling up an adaptor to afix the NeuS4's push rod.
I too heard about a specific mount that would adapt the 01E transmission to the NA A4 subframe but neither I, my dealer nor an excellent and thorough contact in Europe could find a part number let alone the part. I did manage to buy the last RS2 ball socket (mine had a tear in the rubber) available in Europe.
