Default Split Second Boost Controller

Anyone have the Split Second Boost controller instead of a chip. Any comparisons, advantages, disadvantages. I have a 2001 Avant and am planing on installing either the Split Second or the APR chip...

Default Split Second? I think you mean fuzzy logic.

Could you please clarify if you have an A4, A6, or S4? Is your car "fly by wire"?

Default Re: Split Second? I think you mean fuzzy logic.

Sorry, It's an A4 1.8. The Split Second box is is written up in the May Europen Car Tech files section. Essentially it's an electronic adjustable boost box that goes from stock up to 14.5 psi of boost and has an LED readout. It just wires in to the harness off the ECU and cost $299. Seems like a nice set-up. They don't have it for the 2.7 as far as I can tell from their website. (www.Splitsec.com)

Default always use an ECU mod instead of a separate boost controller when possible

The boost controllers work by fooling the ECU. If they fool the ECU, the ECU cannot control parameters accurately because it doesn't really know what is going on.

Default

well, you only adjust the boost, but it still uses the oem fuel mapping (and others)

Default Try to understand boost is important, but only part of the end result.

The aftermarket chips control timing (to build boost at low rpm) as well as the a/f map (nevermind the a/f map for now). Sure you can throw a boost controller on and turn the wic up, but you won't be accomplishing what a chip can (safety of retarded timing at full boost). The chip holds the key to unlocking these cars potential, and they do it through the timing. We already established the chip's roll in adding timing to build boost faster at lower rpm, but as boost falls off at higher rpm, the chip compensates by adding additional timing. Can your boost controller do that?

Default A fellow A4 owner...

...rbarna, I think, rigged one up on his 2001.5 1.8T. However, there have been discrepancies in his findings and use of the SS BCS. He reported that his stock boost levels, read through the BCS, as 7psi when stock for the 01 is 10-11 psi. He didn't have a boost gauge to confirm and I haven't heard since what's up.
