Default Stock vs. APR flywheels and clutch (pics)

Here's a shot of the clutch and flywheels:
<img src="http://home.comcast.net/~xr4tic/images/clutches.jpg">

And the high-tech super accurate bathroom scale says:

APR flywheel: 11.5 lbs
<img src="http://home.comcast.net/~xr4tic/images/alum_weight.jpg">

APR clutch disk: 3.5 lbs
<img src="http://home.comcast.net/~xr4tic/images/apr_disk.jpg">

APR pressure plate: 8.5 lbs
<img src="http://home.comcast.net/~xr4tic/images/apr_press.jpg">

Total weight: 23.5 lbs

Stock flywheel: 24.5 lbs
<img src="http://home.comcast.net/~xr4tic/images/stock_weight.jpg">

Stock clutch disk: 2.0 lbs
<img src="http://home.comcast.net/~xr4tic/images/stock_disk.jpg">

Stock pressure plate: 9.0 lbs
<img src="http://home.comcast.net/~xr4tic/images/stock_press.jpg">

Total weight: 35.5 lbs

The bathroom scale has a +/- accuracy of about 0.5 lbs.
It's interesting to note that the flywheel is 13 lbs. lighter, but the clutch disk is 1.5 lbs heavier. Not a big difference, and you're actual weight savings is slightly less than advertised, but it's still a big help.

I also notice that my flywheel looks different than the one APR pictures. I'd be curious to see what other people's looks like.

Default Excuse the dumb question...but,

Since you switched to the 2.8 tranny, and are using the APR clutch and flywheel, does that mean that the APR cluch and flywheel will work on any 2.8?

Thanks,
Scott

Default It will work with the trans, but maybe not the engine.

You could give an Audi dealer a call and find out if the flywheel/clutch are the same from a 2.8 and 1.8

Well I hope your APR flywheel is balanced.

Default I bet all the extra weight is distributed on a larger radius of the stock flywheel....

So, rotational inertia tells me that you will see a big difference

Default If the weight of the flywheel is the main concern...

I know Speedtech Manufacturing are making 5-6 lbs flywheels for the A4/S4's.
