Default what about...

the bolt torque on the two piese resists flex better then the aluminum bridge of a monoblock. monoblocks are lighter!

Default Re: The piston size was selected, but they still need an adapter bracket. Sorry about the attitude

Stoptech only has a few different piston sizes from what I am remembering. They just made sure that the pistons were not overly larger for the brake MC's capacities.

Default Re: One word...metallurgy. - That can go either way ;-)

Especially since both are aluminum alloys IIRC.

Default It will depend on what you are going to do with your car. You can put bigger

calipers on with stock rotors, A8 rotors, after market rotors etc. and they will all work better then the stock setup or as good as the tires are. However if you are going to send this car in hard in every turn at a DE for a half hour straight what you have paid for will show up. The rotors are as important as the calipers. These are big heavy cars that will warp most any rotor. This is where those big heavy expensive rotors are meant to work. You would be hard pressed to better the Porsche GT2 kit or the big Alcon kit, AP, and even Wilwood, but they are not cheap anywhere. Save your money and get the Porsche ceramics...or not.

Default You're right...there is no difference in alloy properties!

Now go get a clue.

OK, ***, you missed my point. Al alloys all have *some* of the same properties, especially if they are all in the same series. Now, do you know what alloy was used in either caliper, or both to draw a conclusion about the two? I know I don't, and its doubtful anyone outside of Brembo or Porsche knows either (unless they have one of each, and have the equip./tools to figure out which alloy it is).

Default What I do know...

...is that Brembo is going to spec an alloy that is going to deflect only after X,XXX pounds of force. Whether it is a two piece Big Red or a monobloc Boxster S caliper, the metallurgy will be spec'd to achieve similar deflection points.

At some point, three grade 12 bolts are going to be make a stronger bridge than a monobloc of cast aluminum will be.

OK, so what if the 986/986S and the other monoblocs have a higher deflection point (which I'll bet they do)? Also, how the 993 caliper flexes around those bridge bolts would be key. I dunno, maybe I'll toss both the 993C2 and the 986 into Pro/E and run them through the FEA program.

I don't have my Mach. Des. book (or even my Mach. Handbook) to compare the two, but the point is going to be quite high to the degree where I highly doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between the two in the pedal, if all other things were held constant.

Maybe you and the ProE should go take over Brembo R&D ;>

Default There's a ton of pads at good prices for the StopTech kit!

Starting from least expensive street pad, the Axxis Deluxe Plus is only $54/set. The Axxis Ultimate which come with the kit are only $73. Pads for a Brembo kit will cost at least three times that. (I'm a dealer for both Brembo and StopTech.)

I also happen to carry the following pads for StopTech:

Pagid Blue performance street
Pagid Orange "Club race"
Pagid Yellow "Endurance"
Pagid Black "Full race"
Hawk HPS
Hawk HP Plus
Hawk HT 10
Hawk HT 14
Hawk Blue
Performance Friction 97
Performance Friction 01
Kerr Friction Club Race (StopTech branded)

As far as I know, there is no other kit out there with more widely available pads at a lower price.
