My 98 1.8TQ experiences a very annoying "clunk"
or rattling after I go over a bump or pothole.
It happens only on the right front side, and
I can feel it every time, and it makes me grit
my teeth it's so annoying. It's like a quick
rebound rattling, most noticeable when I go over
a pothole (at, say over 20mph) or a speedbump (at
greater speed than normal). After the suspension
compresses and is in the process of rebounding,
I hear/feel a quick thu-thu-thu-thump. I've had
the shocks replaced, with no change. Could it be
the engine mounts? I think I can even feel it
when the engine starts up, and shakes during the
startup.

Any ideas? Has anyone experienced this?!?!?!
I hope you can give me some "oh yeah, that happened
to me" responses; I've already had a shop look at
it with no luck figuring out what it is.

may be at fault. I found this on one A4, after all his control arms replaced by the dealer and the noise is still there. It was clunking over railroad tracks and going in and out driveways

By the way, to the Bilstein and H&R folks, check for leaks. I already found 3 cars (A4/S4) with problems and some didn't know about it until I wiggled the car and it shook like Jello.
