Default Theory about Seconday Air Inj system code

looking at this diagram, if the check valves 10 and/or 15 are bad, would this cause issues with the secondary inj system? I've been getting a code for reverse flow in my secodnay air inj system. I had it with the old engine and this one. I suppose it could be kombi valve, but the chances of both Kombi valves failing??? Seems more likely the check valve to me. Anyone know the part #'s of this valve?

im 99% sure its the combi valve.

an easy way to check (listed in the tech tips ive posted many times) is to check for BLACK carbon exhaust buildup in the side port of the valve. unbolt #12 in the pic ive attached.

I just replaced mine the other weekend...the car runs MUCH better. i wasnt getting a code but i noticed that side of the valve was black during my k04 install...so i knew the valve was bad. the new valve makes a loud clacking noise on startup.

be sure to also check the vac lines going to the valve.

Default well I was trying to avoid that expense

but I think I'll end up going that route. Shokan can get me that part for $55 with a 6 month warranty. I might give it a try. Thanks.

Default Sure, I'd be happy to hear some ideas on this one

a little background. I had this issue with my car for a while. I was getting a code...Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow Detected for a long time and just living with it. It does trigger a CEL after a while but I'd just reset with my APR EMCS. Then last year I had an unfortunate incident and blew and engine. I got a used one and had it installed and the code came back eventually. I really can't remember if it came back right away or not. so if it came back right away, I would think it's not the Kombi valve.

Default like i said....just unbolt the two screws right there and check for blackness in the valve.

if there is no blackness, no expense.

also if you get a loud jet engine sound on a cold start the pump is shot or going.

Default hey if you can let me know what it is, because I have the same problem...

I tested the secondary air valve with VAG the other day, its running, but sound like there is an air leak... that's not right, is it?
