Default For those of you who have built a 1.8....help me please

I have a 2000 1.8T ATW manual and I am thinking about building it seeing that I blew the headgasket the other night from my upper radiator hose blowing off and it wasnt pretty. Not sure if its more than that but surgery starts tomorrow. If I do build it instead of just replacing the headgasket could I get some recommendations of upgraded parts to put in. I dont need anything too ridiculous like making it larger than a 1.8. I will be going with the 034 Stage IIC ECU and GT3071R once its done. List of parts that will make it better as well as prices would be great. Just trying to figure out which route I should take. Also will a intake manifold from a AEB fit onto my ATW head.....anyone who is in the New England are who wants to help and make it go faster is more than welcome to. I appreciate your insight. Audi2ptzero im sure you have some ideas.

Default Could always replace the pistons and rods while your in there

since your most likely going to be changing most of the bearings inside.

As for the AEB intake manifold, yes it will fit but you will have to port out the ATW head to match the AEB runners. Actually I used to run a ATW IM on a AEB head but I had it removed and went with the AEB intake manifold.

Default From what ive read its not all that easy to make a 1.8T more displacement, it can and has been done

but its not like chnaging a 350 to a 383, i guess there are some small intricasies (spelling) that need to be right or things can go wrong.
oil squirters and rod ratio or somthing.

Default well ok then...

from what ive read and the people ive talked to the rods are the weak point.
crank is pretty damn strong, so replace rods w/ stronger and re-ring. replace pistons if they are pitted or in overall bad shape.
