Default Tip + VAG = dyno: questions

A while back somebody posted that measuring block 120/122 contained real-time torque measurments as seen by the tip transmission, and used for shifting. I was just playing with our Passat and it would seem that those values are there, along with RPM in both cases.

Making one wonder if you could using your tranny as a dynamometer by logging RPM v torque seen by the torque converter during a WOT run in a single gear.

Questions:

Anybody have the measuring block locations for the recent 2.8 motors? I have a set that seem to pertain to the 4 cylinder w/o ECS and other new stuff. Most but not all seem to be the same values. However on block 122 #4 says "timing retard" but my VAG reads "ECS active.

Anybody know how the tranny is getting torque? If it's just doing some look-up based on other engine parameters then it's not going to be useful for us modders. On the other hand if it's doing something clever like calculating torque from the torque converter fluid flow rate then this could be very useful. Anybody with a clue?

Anybody have a stock 00/01 2.8L HP/torque curve handy? If I do try to log this stuff, I'd like to compare it to some published standard to see what errors there may be.

Then I'll see what my PES A4 says...

Default I've tried this....

but the graphs don't look right. The HP keeps climbing up to redline, which is not the case with our motors (1.8T)
I think the torque calculations come from the amount of fuel being used.

Default Matched my stock 2.8L exactly, PES car is next

So using our stock passat I got torque and HP curves that were dead-nuts on the published performance specs.

But if all that is happening is that the car is inferring torque from other parameters, like the fuel delivery and such, then the experiment I'm about to do, will fail to match. I'm gonna take my PES A4 out, and if that produces charts that match the PES provided data then, cool it works.

If it looks like some mutant stock car, then nope, it doesn't. Well see.

Default Yeah I noticed the same thing...

Took some torque measurements with the factory ECU, then put the APR ECU in. Not only did the torque readings never go higher than stock, they were quite erratic (jumped all over the place).

So it is probably calculated based on other parameters (like fuel consumption, load factor, etc.) and assumes factory fuel and timing maps.
